Dear members,
This week we have our usual talk by fellow enthusiast, followed by exciting update on the upcoming Software Freedom Day activities. Please note the change in venue at SMU School of Information Systems Seminar Room 2.4 at 2nd floor.
Part 1 - Monthly Talk
-------------- ASTERISK VOIP -------------------------
An incredible revolution is under way. It has been a long time in coming, but now that it has started, there will be no stopping it. It is taking place in an area of technology that has lapsed embarrassingly far behind every other industry that calls itself high-tech. The industry is telecommunications, and the revolution is being fueled by an open source Private Branch eXchange (PBX) called Asterisk?.
Asterisk sits at the apex of a variety of transitions (Proprietary ➝ Open Source, Circuit Switched ➝ VoIP, Voice only ➝ Voice, Video, and Data, Digital Signal Processing ➝ Host Media Processing, Centralized Directory ➝ Peer to Peer) while easing those transitions by providing bridges back to the older ways of doing things.
The founders of Max Cole Technology Solutions, a Singapore based company providing commercial sales and support of Asterisk based PBXes, will be giving a technical presentation on Asterisk and VoIP on Wednesday April 16th.

Part 2: Open Source and Linux Public event (Software Freedom Day)
We are gaining momentum and looks like the event is on. We have updates for you and we look forward to exchanging further idea and firming up our plans for the event. We are going to need a lot of resources in order to make this a respectable event.
